In order to support autonomic orchestration, new protocols and data representation methods for ubiquitous systems and applications must be developed. An emphasis on low power consumption and the efficient use of resources is important for developing new nano- and bio-sensors. However, the dream of U-Health and U-Environment applications will never become a reality if smart applications are connected by dumb networks. Therefore, the embedding of increased cognitive abilities in networks and network devices is of paramount importance.


This research aims to develop memory and nano bio sensor technologies applicable to U-Health and U-Environment applications. This education apporach first concentrates on critical technologies for implementing different types of nano-devices and systems, and then focuses on understanding the key challenges of fusing heterogeneous sensor data, low power but highly efficient communication, and how autonomic and other IT Convergence Engineering technologies can be integrated into networks and network devices. Research puts the theory learned in education into practice by focusing on realizing a new wave of nano- and bio-sensors and -systems development, leading to the optimization of portable RF integrated circuits. This includes designing optimized PHY, MAC and network protocols that enable the transmission of critical data reliably, promptly, and safely.
