▧Mission

 Our missions are to educate and train creative and pioneering next-generation scientists and engineers in bioscience and bioengineering, who can contribute to the betterment of human healthcare, welfare and natural environment, and to stronger global competitiveness in Korea’s biotechnology.

▧Overview

 The School of Interdisciplinary Bioscience and Bioengineering (I-Bio Program) was launched in 2006 as a interdisciplinary graduate program in bioscience and bioengineering at the Pohang University of Science and Engineering (POSTECH) for the development of state-of-the-art bioengineering technology of interdisciplinary nature, under the mission to educate and train world-class scientists and engineers in unique educational systems, who, equipped with both quantitative, systematic, and integrative orientations and hands-on experience, can lead the new trends of integrative bioscience and bioengineering in the future.

▧The I-Bio

 accepting a highly qualified, limited number of graduate students, is run under innovative educational systems in which the core sciences such as biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics are combined with the knowledge, techniques, and insights from a variety of disciplines, including electronic and electrical engineering, computer science and engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, and environmental engineering. This new program is expected to create a new paradigm for understanding, analyzing and adapting life phenomena and to serve as a role model for a successful bioscience and bioengineering program.

  The I-Bio Program of POSTECH particularly enjoys the great advantages of being close to the National Core Research Center for Systems Bio-Dynamics (SBD-NCRC) designated by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the POSTECH Biotech Center (PBC), the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL), and other state-of-the-art educational and research infrastructures on campus, all working for better educating and training creative and pioneering next-generation scientists and engineers in the field of bioscience and bioengineering.
