A giant periodic oscillation of the magnetically induced polarization (∆P) discovered in a transition-metal-ion-doped compound semiconductor. The induced ferroelectric polarization is remarkably high at 3 K, with ∆P = 4~6 μC/cm2 at a bias magnetic field of 3 T. A considerable change of the polarization is observed even at room temperature, with ∆P = 20 nC/cm2.  Such a giant magnetoelectric (ME) coupling that persists to room temperature makes the present system a promising material for practical ME applications.
